Authentic Community
By Steve Imbach
Living in an authentic community that pursues the qualities of vulnerability, transparency and availability encourages us in our rambling attempts at staying true to the way of Jesus. Kierkegaard suggests that to be authentic persons our actions, beliefs and desires need to come from within ourselves. We most often defer to living outside ourselves. It is easy to pattern our beliefs, actions and desires from the groups, family members or friends with whom we associate. One of our greatest fears is to be isolated from others and ourselves. We find it hard to believe in our inherent value and goodness and we avoid being labeled. Remaining true to ourselves is the singleness of heart that keeps us faithful and loyal to the way of Jesus. God’s presence and DNA are resident in our being! Therefore we are graced to welcome the desire to live our “belovedness” as God’s children. God’s loving care offers us the confidence to rest in our staying true to the way of Jesus.
Let’s live confidently kept as God’s beloved!
